The Inclusion Initiative at London School of Economics and Political Science close London's Market

The Diversity and Productivity from Education to Work team celebrates the close of their 3 year research project at London Stock Exchange

This evening, the Diversity and Productivity from Education to Work (DAPEW) research team closed trading at the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the end of their project. The market close formed part of the teams end to a 3 year Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded research grant to better understand the relationship between diversity, inclusion and productivity in the UK.

The project which began in 2022 is led by The Inclusion Initiative at the LSE, in collaboration with researchers from the Institute for Fiscal Studies, University of Sheffield, University College London and University of Warwick. This innovative research collaboration aimed to advance the understanding of barriers in creating diverse workforces and provide new evidence on the impact of diversity on firm performance. Additionally, the team investigated the role of the education system as the start of the ‘leaky pipeline' in which individuals from under-represented groups lose access to career opportunities.

The market was closed by Dr Grace Lordan, Founding Director of The Inclusion Initiative. The event was attended by representatives from corporate partner firms, members of the impact and academic advisory boards, research participants and invited guests. She reflected on the progress of the 10+ linked projects and the rigours research produced, noting that while significant progress has been made more work needs to be done. In her remarks Hollie Doell, Senior Research Portfolio Manager at the ESRC spoke about the research programme from the funder perspective and its impact.

The program also featured a panel discussion with Elise Badoy, Head of Research for Europe, the UK, the Middle East, and Africa at Citi Belton Flournoy, Managing Director at Protiviti, Katherine Gansallo, Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion - UK, EMEA and Group and Wayne Lee, Managing Director and Head of International Banking. Their discussion followed several themes related to the research from the link of inequalities in education on firm level diversity spending to the impact of artificial intelligence on the promotion gap.

The Inclusion Initiative and the Diversity and Productivity Research Team extends its sincere thanks to London Stock Exchange Group for hosting the market close and to its corporate partners, research participants and sponsors whose continued support enables the team to produce insightful and analytically robust research.

The Inclusion Initiative (TII) at LSE launched in November 2020. TII leverages behavioural science insights to advance our understanding of the factors that enhance inclusion at work. TII brings industry, academics and other stakeholders together regularly to exchange ideas, highlight new findings and build partnerships.

The Diversity and Productivity from Education to Work project is delivered in partnership with University College London, Institute for Fiscal Studies, University of Warwick, and University of Sheffield. The project brings together leading institutions in a unique and collaborative effort in order to provide new insight into the barriers to under-represented groups reaching their full productive potential.
