China

Providing access to one of the world’s largest economies

Connecting China to the world

China’s economic growth has been a steady, gradual process, generating significant economic benefits for both China and the UK. Three decades of policy and economic reforms has enabled China’s rapid ascension to the global stage. As a global financial hub, London Stock Exchange Group is proud to have played a supporting role in China’s journey.

The Global Equity Segment: Trading China in London

The Global Equity Segment (GES) is our latest innovation, designed to enhance global market access. With GES, investors can trade global securities, including some US blue chip stocks and US-listed Chinese ADRs such as Alibaba, Baidu and Futu, during London hours.

Using the well-established and trusted CREST Depository Interest (CDI) workflow allows investors to trade and settle international securities in London efficiently and with ease.

Moving CDIs smoothly between markets allows for seamless cross-border execution and settlement within a T+2 settlement cycle. Investors can buy securities in London and sell in New York on the same day during regular trading hours.

Index inclusion

LSEG’s world-class index and analytics business, FTSE Russell, has a proven track record in developing Chinese market indices. FTSE Russell China benchmarks have become widely recognised and respected by investors and issuers globally as a leading measure of the Chinese equity market.

A-shares are included in FTSE Russell’s global equity benchmarks; a reflection of China’s development and the progress that has been made in the country’s equity capital markets.

Our China Stock Connect Programme

The Shanghai-London Stock Connect and the Shenzhen-London Stock Connect links China, one of the world’s largest domestic capital markets, with the leading stock market in London.
