A relationship dating back nearly 100 years
The strong relationship between the London Stock Exchange and Africa dates back nearly a century. The first African company listed on our exchange was African Explosives & Industries, who made blasting explosives and detonators for the gold and diamond mining industries in South Africa. Headquartered in South Africa and now known as AECI, it has been listed in London since 1937. More than 100 African companies have followed in their footsteps, leveraging London’s global platform to access capital for growth and expansion.
Supporting African economies from London

They play an essential role in developing skills, jobs, wealth and ultimately driving economic growth. By developing a robust and inclusive financial markets infrastructure, the London Stock Exchange can unlock the full potential of African economies and drive sustainable growth.
