THE ORIGINAL +
Since 2016, CANAL+ has almost tripled its international subscriber base, with nearly two-thirds of its 26.8 million subscribers now outside France and over 400 million monthly active users worldwide on its OTT and video streaming platforms.
Today, CANAL+ operates across 52 countries. High-growth markets such as Africa and Asia have been key drivers of its expansion, while CANAL+ has innovated to stay ahead of evolving consumer preferences in its European markets like France and Poland.
Its approach has redefined the viewer experience by aggregating high quality content acquired or produced in-house for its premium services, together with leading streaming services, third party and free-to-air channels in a seamless consumer experience through its leading OTT platform. This approach has cemented CANAL+ as a central player in the global media ecosystem.
CANAL+ is growing organically, benefiting from structurally supportive market dynamics. In addition, the group has made three significant investments to continue its international expansion beyond its existing geographies. Today CANAL+ is the leading shareholder in MultiChoice Group, the leading pay-TV company in English and Portuguese speaking Africa. CANAL+ is currently undertaking a mandatory offer for MultiChoice Group, creating a champion for Africa on the global stage. The group is also the leading shareholder in Viaplay, Scandinavia’s leading pay-TV and has a significant equity stake in Viu, which has consistently ranked among the top 3 OTT platforms in Southeast Asia.
The group’s proprietary content offering, driven by its in-house studio, STUDIOCANAL, has further solidified its position as a leading media player. STUDIOCANAL boasts one of the world’s largest movie libraries, encompassing over 9,400 titles including leading franchises such as Paddington, and global box office hits such as Rambo, Terminator II and Bridget Jones’s Diary. Including the output and commissioning from its pay-tv channels, the group produces around 200 films, 80 TV series, and more than 5,000 hours of unscripted content annually, serving both CANAL+ channels and third-party partners.
“From our roots in France, CANAL+ has become one of the world’s leading integrated media companies. Thanks to the unique talent of our teams, we offer the best entertainment content to our 26.8 million subscribers across Europe, Africa, and Asia. As a truly international company, we are proud to be listing on the London Stock Exchange.”
“Since our inception, we have continuously innovated. Where others have seen disruption, we have seen opportunity. Today, CANAL+ thrives not only as a ‘traditional’ Pay-TV operator but also as a leading premium publisher and a super aggregator of third-party content offering a unique entertainment experience across all broadcasting and streaming devices.”
“As we join the London Stock Exchange, we are excited to continue to deliver on our ambition to provide the best entertainment and value proposition to subscribers globally. With a growing presence in high-growth markets and transformational potential acquisitions like MultiChoice in Africa. I am proud to lead CANAL+ into its next chapter and would like to thank each and every member of our team who has made today possible.”
