3i Group plc (“3i” or the “Group”), today closed the Markets of the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the 30th year since its initial listing in July 1994.

3i is an investment company specialising in private equity and infrastructure investment in mid- market companies headquartered in northern Europe and North America. Simon Borrows was appointed as Chief Executive in June 2012 and implemented a fundamental reshaping of the business with a focus on investment of the Group’s proprietary capital with an aim of compounding value for its shareholders over the long term. Under his leadership, the annualised total shareholder return has accelerated to nearly 30%.

3i traces its origins to two organisations founded in 1945. One, Industrial and Commercial Finance Corporation Limited, was established to provide long-term capital for small and medium-sized businesses. The other, Finance Corporation for Industry Limited, was established to provide medium-term loans to large companies. In 1974, the two entities merged under a new holding company called Finance for Industry Limited, which was renamed Investors in Industry Group plc in 1983 and successively 3i Group plc in 1988.
