Post Trade Solutions marks 10 years of Uncleared Margin Rules and industry transformation
Today, London Stock Exchange welcomed Post Trade Solutions (LSEG), ISDA, Citi, UBS, BNP Paribas and other industry leaders to explore the evolution of UMR over the past 10 years, the challenges the industry has overcome, and the lessons learned through its implementation.
Over the past decade, UMR has reshaped the derivatives landscape, driving greater standardisation, transparency and collaboration across the industry. Introduced as part of the global regulatory response to systemic risk in derivatives markets following the financial crisis, UMR has since helped catalyse broader innovation across post-trade.
The past decade of UMR implementation demonstrated what can be achieved when market participants, regulators, and infrastructure and technology providers work together to address complex industry-wide challenges and build more efficient, secure, and resilient markets.
The anniversary event brought together leaders from across the wider derivatives industry to reflect on that journey and consider where the opportunities lie in the years ahead, as the financial and risk landscape continues to shift and approaches to collateral and margin management evolve.
The discussions examined how those lessons can help shape the next phase of innovation and growth in derivatives markets. As the industry continues to evolve, the processes, standards, and infrastructure built in the first decade of UMR provide a critical foundation for further collaboration and innovation in how firms approach risk and collateral management over the next decade.
Scott O’Malia, CEO of ISDA, joined John Pucciarelli, Director of Partnerships and Industry Engagement at Post Trade Solutions (LSEG), for a special fireside chat on the evolution of UMR and collateral management, as well as ISDA’s future priorities.
The programme concluded with a Market Close Ceremony and a speech by Andrew Williams, CEO of Post Trade Solutions (LSEG), bringing participants together to commemorate a decade of transformation and setting the tone for continued collaboration and innovation in the years to come.
