City of Women brings together voices from across the Square Mile, continuing a series of performances held in City spaces including Devonshire Square, The Royal Exchange and LSEG. The performance wove together a choir performance and words from interviews conducted by Tessa Marchington, CEO of Music in Offices, and historian Veronica Horwell, elevating the lived experiences of women working in and around the City of London.

The event celebrated the achievements, resilience and contributions of women who uplift others and continue to advance justice and parity for women and girls. The ceremony was attended by senior City figures and invited guests from business, culture, and public life, reflecting the collective commitment to gender equality across sectors.

The choir was drawn from across the City, including members of Music in Offices’ corporate choir network, singers from the London Youth Choir Chamber Choir, and members of She Sings Choir. Together, they performed a set that captured strength, solidarity, and empowerment, including Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves, What’s Up?, and I’m Every Woman.

To mark the close of the trading day, Julia Hoggett, CEO of London Stock Exchange, was joined by Tessa Marchington and Elizabeth Kallampurum, a London Youth Choir member and fifth‑year medical student at UCL, to ring the bell - symbolising the City’s recognition of women’s ongoing contributions to finance, culture, and public life.

Voices from history were interwoven throughout the performance, combining newly recorded interviews with contemporary leaders and historical texts drawn from journals, letters, and court records. Together, these voices traced the long arc of women’s participation in the City - from early clerical and communications roles to leadership in finance, law, and entrepreneurship.

City of Women once again amplified women’s voices, celebrated progress, and encouraged continued advocacy for justice and equality - closing the markets not only with music, but with purpose.
