Today, the London Stock Exchange welcomed a delegation from the Republic of Botswana, led by His Honour the Vice President of the Republic of Botswana and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, with a market open ceremony to mark the commencement of Botswana Day in London.
Hosted by the Government of Botswana and the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE), in partnership with London Stock Exchange Plc and Standard Bank, the event is held under the theme: “Botswana: Financing the Next Chapter of Growth.”
Investment and capital mobilisation are central to Botswana’s next phase of economic growth. Accordingly, Botswana Day brings together senior representatives from Botswana’s public and private sectors, international investors, financial institutions and development partners. The programme anchored in National Development Plan 12, the Botswana Economic Transformation Programme and capital markets growth agenda provides a platform to showcase Botswana’s investment story, economic transformation agenda and ambition to deepen its engagement with international sources of capital.
“Botswana stands at an important point in its economic journey. Our ambition is to mobilise capital that creates lasting value, capital that builds infrastructure, strengthens businesses, creates quality jobs and accelerates diversification. Botswana is a credible and competitive investment destination, underpinned by political stability, sound institutions, strong governance and increasingly sophisticated financial and capital markets. We need institutional investors, international investors, development finance institutions and the private sector to work alongside Botswana in attaining our national priorities and unlocking new sources of financing while positioning our national champions for growth beyond our borders.”
Mr. Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe
Botswana Day has a clear objective: to translate the country’s economic transformation ambitions into investable opportunities and lasting partnerships. Botswana is using its presence in London to engage investors on diversifying its sources of financing and mobilising capital for strategic national projects and to connect its next chapter of growth with global capital.
