The London Stock Exchange celebrates the launch of Sovereign AI
On Friday 17 April, The London Stock Exchange welcomed the Department for Science Innovation and Technology, and the Office for Investment, alongside investors founders and ecosystem partners for a market close ceremony celebrating the launch of Sovereign AI.
Sovereign AI is a UK Government-backed initiative, supported by up to £500 million of capital, designed to help UK-based high-potential AI startups and scaleups to start in Britain, scale in Britain, and win globally. Alongside investment, the programme is intended to help companies access capabilities that can be hard to secure at speed, so that frontier technologies can translate into economic growth and strengthened national resilience.
The ceremony brought together leaders and founders working at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence to recognise the UK’s long-standing contributions to computing and to highlight the ambition behind Sovereign AI: backing the most promising British AI companies so they can grow into globally competitive champions.
