The Export-Import Bank of Korea (“Korea Eximbank” or the “Bank”) marks a significant milestone today as it celebrated its successful USD global bond issuance and listing on the London Stock Exchange.
Korea Eximbank, rated AA/Aa2/AA-, is an official export credit agency (ECA) and a leading policy bank of South Korea. Since its establishment in 1976, the Bank has been dedicated to facilitating development of Korea’s economy and fostering international economic cooperation by providing financial support for exports, imports, and overseas investments.
As a trusted SSA benchmark issuer and a leading borrower in the Asia-Pacific region, Korea Eximbank has successfully raised US$3 billion through its annual global bond issuance, structured in quadruple-tranche: 3-year floating-rate bond of US$400 million, and 3-5-10-year fixed-rate bond of US$850 million, US$1,250 million and US$500 million respectively.
This bond issuance is a testament to the Bank’s stability and resilience, demonstrated by its ability to attract strong investor participation despite global market volatility. Additionally, this achievement sets a meaningful benchmark and creates favorable issuance conditions for future Korean borrowers as well.
The proceeds from this global bond issuance will be invested in high-tech industries, large-scale infrastructure and nuclear power projects, and carbon-neutrality initiatives, in alignment with the Bank’s 2025 business plan. Moreover, the US$850 million 3-year fixed-rate bond, issued as a Sustainable bond, will finance green and social projects under the Bank’s Sustainable Finance Framework.
“We could not be prouder to have had a successful bond issuance and listing on the London Stock Exchange amid heightened volatility in the financial markets. This accomplishment underscores investors’ unwavering trust in us, despite recent political developments in Korea. The Korean economy remains strong and stable, supported by a robust system of checks and balances. We will continue to play a leading role in reinforcing Korea’s global credit standing.”
“This US$3 billion global bond issuance marks a crucial first step as we plan to raise approximately US$14 billion this year. We remain dedicated to open communication with investors by having multiple investor calls and physical meetings to reassure their confidence. We are grateful for London Stock Exchange for providing this effective platform that enables us to engage with broader group of investors and look forward to working closely with our partners moving forward.”
