LSEG welcomes Mauritius rings the bell

Elevating the Mauritius IFC as Africa’s strategic hub to London

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is delighted to welcome the Honourable Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning of Mauritius, Dr. Jyotee Jeetun, who will ring the market closing bell today, 15 October 2025.

The Minister’s presence at this prestigious ceremony is emblematic of Mauritius's national vision, showcasing its ambition to elevate the Mauritius International Financial Centre (IFC) to new heights.

Known for its political stability, robust regulatory framework, and unique position as a pivotal bridge between Asia and Africa, Mauritius is focused on deepening its role as the preferred strategic platform for global investment into and out of the continent.

The African trampoline strategy

The core purpose of the Minister’s engagement with LSEG is to advance discussions on a specific capital markets collaboration. Mauritius is seeking an opportunity where the Stock Exchange of Mauritius (SEM) serves as a dynamic incubator, allowing high-growth regional companies to list successfully locally before using Mauritius as a strategic 'trampoline' for a subsequent listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

This dual-listing pathway is designed to offer African businesses the advantage of initial growth capital and regulatory experience within a trusted, internationally compliant environment, providing a smooth, de-risked transition to the global exposure and scale offered by the LSE. This initiative is key to ensuring greater integration of African capital markets with the world’s leading financial centres.

A vision for global reach

The partnership reflects a shared dedication to unlocking the vast potential of African enterprises and channelling international investment toward them.

LSEG looks forward to building on its longstanding relationship with Mauritius and collaborating closely with the Economic Development Board and the Ministry of Financial Services and Economic Planning to make this vision for seamless capital market growth a reality.

We anticipate a fruitful partnership that significantly enhances access to global capital for the continent’s most promising companies

“Mauritius is the eastern most part of Africa with strong historical and cultural ties with the continent as well with India and China. We ambition to become the leading IFC for investment flows between Africa and Asia. Besides, the latest GFCI 38 Index ranks Mauritius first in Africa.”
