Today members and observers of the data and ratings working group (DRWG) came together to celebrate the 14 December 2023 launch of the Code of Conduct for ESG Ratings and Data Products Providers. Starting with a keynote speech from the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the event also featured two panel discussions focused on “the Code in Practice” and “International Context”.
The DRWG had been chaired by LSEG, Moody’s, M&G and Slaughter & May. The Secretariat was provided by the International Capital Market Association (ICMA) and the International Regulatory Strategy Group (IRSG). With the launch of the Code, ICMA assumed ownership.
By basing the Code heavily on IOSCO’s recommendations, it is intended to be internationally interoperable, and it is hoped that it can represent an important step towards a globally consistent regulatory framework.
“IOSCO welcomes this voluntary Code of Conduct and considers it an important building block to providing an international baseline which will improve transparency and trust for all market participants, regardless of their jurisdiction.”
Tajinder Singh
“The Code is an important step in further promoting internationally consistent standards across sustainable finance. We encourage all ESG ratings and data products providers to sign up to the Code.”
Nicholas Pfaff
