London Stock Exchange welcomes the UK Carbon Markets Forum and ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets

As part of London Climate Action Week, London Stock Exchange is proud to host a Dialogue on Scaling Carbon Markets, with the UK Carbon Markets Forum and the ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets.

Carbon Markets are a growing area of a focus for the financial ecosystem, as governments worldwide implement carbon pricing schemes and companies increasingly seek to utilise carbon credits to compensate for their greenhouse gas emissions today, whilst implementing plans to decarbonise their businesses by 2050 at the latest – and often significantly prior to this.

To enable this nascent asset class to scale rapidly and achieve its potentially significant role in financing climate action around the world, we will need to establish common standards and principles and meet the needs different stakeholders – governments, investors, private sector and civil society.

It was for this reason that the UK Carbon Markets Forum and ASEAN Alliance on Carbon Markets were established, to bring together the key stakeholders in the region and put in place programmes that can enable the adoption of carbon markets.

It’s also important to link international financial markets as the source of capital for climate projects - along with the associated technical and legal expertise - to the countries and regions that wish to deploy it, to support capacity building and execution. LSEG has been playing a proactive role in convening the corporate and financial sectors and is delighted to being together the UK and ASEAN ecosystems as part of this vital effort to fight climate change.
