THENA Capital celebrates the first close of its London-based MedTech VC fund, led by an all-female General Partner team

The London Stock Exchange today welcomed THENA Capital to open trading in a Market Open Ceremony celebrating the first close of its London-based Medical Technology venture capital fund, led by an all-female General Partner team. THENA Capital, targeting a £50M fund, is anchored by the British Business Bank’s Enterprise Capital Funds Programme and has announced their first close at £27M. A milestone achievement well-timed in the month of International Women’s Day.

THENA Capital’s Fund I will invest in and partner with UK startups developing digital healthcare solutions and fast-track medical devices. The founding team brings deep industry expertise from across the global healthcare spectrum. As well as capital, they will work closely with founders to commercialise pivotal medical innovations and support the companies to scale successfully across the globe.

Fund I focusses on backing startups in key opportunity areas including chronic conditions, oncology, cardiovascular, mental health, neurology, care service delivery and women’s health - a critically underserved area.

With strong tailwinds in the healthcare sector and a first-mover advantage in early stage UK MedTech VC, THENA Capital is driving change; the future of healthcare is now.

“The UK is a key player in the global medical landscape generating game changing innovations. We are thrilled to collaborate with founders, turbocharging their businesses to transform patient experiences at scale and close the gender healthcare gap.
Having worked in the Pharma and MedTech sectors for over two decades, the investment strategy for THENA Capital was established from industry operational experience by identifying a pivotal opportunity for tech solutions from world class talent and institutions to catalyse the future of healthcare.”
-Dr Pamela Walker Geddes, Esther Reynal de Saint-Michel Richardot, Tatum Getty, Founding General Partners, THENA Capital

“This commitment to THENA Capital supports our strategic objective to back innovation as they back startups developing digital healthcare solutions and fast-track medical devices. Supporting early-stage businesses with growth potential sits at the core of our investment strategy. As one of the founding signatories of the Investing in Women Code, we are delighted to partner with an all-female investment team who also signed the Code. Supporting the advancement of female entrepreneurship in the UK is key for the British Business Bank, not only because it is the right thing to do but also because it is good for business, leading to better performance and better returns.”
- Christine Hockley, Managing Director and Co-Head of Funds, British Business Bank

“We are delighted to welcome THENA Capital to the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the first close of their London-based MedTech VC fund, and to welcome an all-female founded investment team, especially during the month of International Women’s Day. This successful close in a challenging environment for fundraising globally showcases how the UK is well-positioned to support the medical technology and life sciences sectors, as well as female founders and investors.”
-Neil Shah, Head of Tech, Primary Markets, London Stock Exchange
