Saskatchewan, Canada Introduces New $1 Billion Bond
The Government of Saskatchewan is honoured to close the London Stock Exchange today. The Market Close ceremony celebrates the successful issuance of Saskatchewan’s $1 billion USD bond in January 2025.
This offering marks the Province of Saskatchewan's highly anticipated return to the USD market, following its successful issuance in May 2022 and inaugural EUR transaction in April 2024. These offerings have solidified Saskatchewan's position in the international capital markets as a strong, high-quality issuer.
“We couldn’t be more pleased on the successful issuance of this bond,” Premier of Saskatchewan Scott Moe said: “Saskatchewan has a strong and stable economy, and this successful bond issuance reflects the confidence of international investors in our great province. We will continue to grow our markets, attract new investments, and create new opportunities for anyone who wants to work or do business in Saskatchewan.”
Despite a very active January global SSA issuance calendar, the province recorded its largest USD order book to date. Final demand surpassed USD 3.6bn from over 67 investors across a diverse range of types and geographies, enabling 4 bps compression from initial pricing thoughts to final terms.
The transaction was led by CIBC, J.P. Morgan, National Bank, and TD Securities, and supported by BMO, RBC, and Scotiabank.
The province of Saskatchewan is about 650,000 km2. It is home to 40 per cent of Canada’s farmland in the south, forest the size of Germany in the north, and an estimated 100,000 lakes and rivers. Situated in the middle of the continent, its southern region borders the states of North Dakota and Montana.
Saskatchewan is committed to creating and nurturing an economic environment that allows businesses to grow and prosper. The Canadian province has become a world leader in sustainable economic development, producing the food, fuel, and fertiliser that a growing world needs. It has a reputation as a strong, secure, and stable trade partner, and has a network of nine international trade and investment offices, including one in the UK.
