LSEG celebrates Nomura’s 60th Anniversary in London

LSEG congratulates Nomura on six decades in London connecting international clients East and West.

Nomura is a global financial services group with an integrated network spanning approximately 30 countries and regions. By connecting markets East & West, Nomura services the needs of individuals, institutions, corporates and governments through its three business divisions: Wealth Management, Investment Management, and Wholesale (Global Markets and Investment Banking).

Driven by the insights of some 27,000 people worldwide, Nomura puts its clients at the center of everything it does, delivering unparalleled access to, from and within Asia.

Established nearly a century ago in Japan, Nomura opened its first London office with two people in 1964 seeking growth in dynamic overseas markets. Fast forward to today and Nomura has more than 2,500 employees working from offices in the heart of the city.

Nomura has long been at the forefront of cutting-edge trends. Its Instinet business gave birth to electronic trading in 1969 and became the first Electronic Communication Network, created to allow brokers to buy and sell stocks after regular market hours.

In the 1990’s, securitization came of age and contributed to a big expansion of the finance industry with Nomura continuing to play a significant role. Fixed income trading, equity derivatives and M&A became important parts of Nomura’s offering.

More recently, Nomura has embraced digital assets and blockchain through its Laser Digital arm, while its acquisition of boutique M&A firm Greentech Capital in 2020 demonstrated a long-term commitment to advising and supporting innovative businesses at the center of the green energy transition.

Nomura updated its Group Purpose statement earlier this year ahead of its centenary in 2025: “We aspire to create a better world by harnessing the power of financial markets.”

The new Group Purpose articulates Nomura's strong resolve to work together with various stakeholders to build a better future, and its determination to continue taking on new challenges to become the best company for its clients and broader society.

Kentaro Okuda, President and Group CEO, Nomura Holdings:

“A big thank you to our clients without whom we wouldn’t have made it to 60 years in London and with whom we hope to celebrate another 60 years. We greatly value our trusted relationship with you and are committed to serving you.”
