London Stock Exchange welcomes London Chamber of Commerce and Industry to celebrate the launch of the City of London Chamber

London Stock Exchange today welcomes The London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), launching the City of London Chamber.

The new Chamber will provide a dedicated voice and forum to convene, support and champion businesses operating in the Square Mile across all sectors, ranging from large multinational corporations to more than 22,000 small businesses.

The City of London is home to some of the world’s leading banks and financial and professional services companies, alongside thousands of cross-sector businesses. Collectively, they represent a key component of London’s Central Business District and contribute nearly £70 billion annually to London’s economy.

The City of London Chamber will represent its members on the key issues affecting businesses in the City, including business rates, labour and skills shortages, business crime, improving footfall after the pandemic and the City’s competitiveness.

Its creation will also support businesses as they navigate more existential challenges such as post-Brexit arrangements and the City’s ongoing recovery from the pandemic, to maintain and enhance London’s reputation as a world-renowned financial centre.

In collaboration with key stakeholders like the City of London Corporation, the Chamber will strive to support the Corporation’s endeavours to help restore economic growth and promote the Lord Mayor and Policy Chairman’s joint vision of making the City net zero by 2040 and a Destination City for workers, visitors and residents.

Richard Burge, Chief Executive of London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said:
“LCCI works hand in hand with businesses to help them overcome challenges, share expertise and make valuable connections that support their sustainable growth. Through our work together, it’s become increasingly clear that a bespoke forum is needed to support businesses across the City of London who are currently operating against a challenging backdrop. London is the engine room of the UK economy and maintaining the City’s credentials is crucial to sustaining Global Britain’s standing on the international stage. As we start a new year, faced by mounting challenges on numerous fronts, we are delighted to launch the City of London Chamber to help support its businesses in 2023 and beyond”.

Prem Goyal, Alderman of the City of London and Founding Chair of the City of London Chamber, said:
“The City of London Chamber will provide an important forum for Square Mile’s businesses to collaborate and speak with one voice. Throughout my career in the City, I’ve seen how difficult it is to tackle issues such as labour and skills shortages without businesses of all sectors and sizes uniting together. As Founding Chair of the Chamber’s Executive Committee, I look forward to collaborating with the City of London Corporation and working with the business community in the City to make the Square Mile a Destination City for workers, visitors and residents.

Amy Green from Specialist Risk Group, Member of the City of London Chamber, said:
“We are delighted to be founding members of the City of London Chamber, and I look forward to working alongside fellow local businesses to tackle many of the issues facing businesses like ours in the City. In a challenging economic environment, I look forward to working within the London Chamber community to secure a positive outlook for businesses.”
