London Stock Exchange celebrates 20 years since the first Wizz Air flight

Wizz Air, one of Europe’s most sustainable airlines, is proud to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its first flight by opening the London Stock Exchange.  This celebration also marks the upcoming 10th anniversary of Wizz Air’s admission to the Exchange on 25th February 2015.

Since its first flight took off on 19th May 2004 from Katowice, Poland to London Luton, Wizz Air has flown more than 390 million passengers. In fiscal year 2024 ended on 31 March 2024, it set a new record, carrying 62 million passengers, the highest number in the airline’s history.

It continues to be recognised across the industry, being named as one of the World's Top 5 Safest Low-Cost Airlines by AirlineRatings.com, the world's only safety and product rating agency, Airline of the Year by Air Transport Awards in 2019 and in 2023.

Wizz Air is a team of dedicated aviation professionals, aiming to deliver superior service and ultra-low fares. Today’s London Stock Exchange Market Opening Ceremony not only reflects the expertise and breadth of the London markets, but also Wizz’s own standing as a preeminent international business.

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer, said:
"It is now twenty years since the very first Wizz Air flight left the ground and we set out our vision to liberate lives through affordable travel. After growing rapidly to become Central and Eastern Europe’s largest low-cost airline, we successfully completed an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange. Building on our listing, today we stand even further along that journey, with 208 aircraft servicing a network of 200 airports in more than 50 countries.

“We are excited by the opportunities still to come for Wizz Air, but now is an appropriate moment to take stock of how we’ve far come in and the role our listing in London has played in that success. We thank the London Stock Exchange for their ongoing support in helping us to grow and flourish as a company and we look forward to the future.”
