
FinTech Wales celebrates St David’s Day at the London Stock Exchange
FinTech Wales, the independent membership association and champion of the Fintech and Financial Services industry in Wales, has today marked St David’s Day with a market open ceremony at the London Stock Exchange, as part of Wales Week London.
Celebrating the Thriving Welsh Fintech Ecosystem
FinTech Wales will be / was joined by industry professionals, thought leaders, and key stakeholders from Wales and beyond, to recognise and celebrate the thriving fintech ecosystem in Wales.
Proudly promoting one of the most inclusive and collaborative fintech ecosystems in the world, South Wales, is known as an emerging high-growth fintech cluster.
2022/23 saw significant growth and development for Welsh fintechs as the Fintech in Wales Annual Report states:
- Fintechs employ over 16,000 people in Wales
- Investment into Welsh fintechs has increased by over 300% since 2022
- £53 million was raised in publicly announced rounds by October 2023
- International attraction, expansion and collaboration with Welsh fintechs demonstrate the skills, leadership and innovation available in Wales
- There are 22,900 active, female-led companies in Wales
- 34.6% of active companies have a woman in a leadership position — a higher proportion than any other UK nation
- 3 key investment funds have recently been announced:
- British Business Banks £130 million Investment Fund for Wales
- UK-wide £1 billion Fintech Growth Fund
- £160M Investment Zone in the Cardiff Capital Region, with further plans for another Investment Zone in Wrexham and Flintshire
- Cardiff Capital Innovation fund £50M
