ORB panel at the London Investor Show

An ORB panel session was featured at the London Investor Show at London Olympia on 26 October 2012. The panel included Patrick Gordon from Killik & Co, David Budworth from The Times and Peter Temple an expert and author in Fixed Income. The panel was moderated by Mark Glowrey from Canaccord Genuity. Key themes of discussion included:

  • balance of bonds in a portfolio
  • bond issuer financial health and agency ratings
  • what are some of the risks and is the coupon a suitable compensation for taking on the risks
  • yield indicators?
  • bond funds and bond ETFs
  • liquidity and ease of access to bonds on ORB
     

ACT breakfast briefing: The UK retail bond market an untapped source of corporate funding

The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) held a breakfast briefing looking into the UK retail bond market, how treasurers can take advantage, and current efforts to bring the UK retail investor base to corporates in the most efficient, transparent and cost effective way. Key topics included:

  • What is the retail bond market?
  • A low risk, reliable and sustainable funding option for corporates?
  • Getting to grips with the documentation - is it easier than you think?
  • What are the real benefits - and drawbacks - for the borrower?

London Stock Exchange involved in the discussions on Non-bank lending: Funding for Growth

On 17th March 2010, CassBusinessSchool in partnership with The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) hosted a breakfast to address the issues of companies trying to reschedule or raise new debt. The discussion also reflected on the continuing developments and possible obstacles in developing more efficient and cost effective mechanisms for non-bank lending. The meeting covered the perspectives of Corporate Treasurers, Banks, Investors and Intermediaries and offered an opportunity to debate some of the specific questions raised in the HM Treasury paper, such as credit assessment, information provision to investors, bank capacity and competition in the market.
 

Retail Bond Market Seminars
8 - 12 March 2010

The London Stock Exchange held a free seminar which provided an introduction to the new retail bond market and a general update on the Exchange’s other markets. The seminar commenced with a market review including the trading activity and trends experienced over the past year across all of our markets as well as looking at various forthcoming initiatives to be introduced in 2010.
 

Charted Institute of Securities and Investment seminar:  Aspects of retail bond issuance in the UK

On 25th March 2010, the CISI held a seminar at the London Stock Exchange. The seminar examined the following:

  • The UK listing requirements and process for admitting securities to the UKLA Official List
  • The London Stock Exchange admission requirements and application process
  • Market segmentation for debt securities on the London Stock Exchange
  • Regulatory aspects of wholesale and retail issuance under the Prospectus Directive
