Helping to meet global security identification challenges
A unique, market-level, global security identifier increases STP efficiencies and decreases the costs of cross-border trade failure. Having undertaken extensive industry consultation we believe the real-time allocation mechanism, combined with greater coverage of instruments and additional identification, will lead to a reduction in trade failure and streamlining of manual processes.
The enhancements to the SEDOL code mean that the SEDOL Masterfile service is the only solution that currently meets three key industry criteria tests as considered by the Reference Data User Group (RDUG) and the Reference Data Coalition (REDAC) paper “In search of Unique Instrument Identifer” June 2003.
Uniqueness - SEDOL codes issued with additional identification data including the global ISIN code and Market Identifier Code (MIC).
Timeliness - SEDOL codes allocated in real-time via a 24/7 web browser, with bespoke interface offered for high volume requests. In addition, SEDOL Masterfile reference data is delivered to direct subscribers intra-day.
Commonality - SEDOL codes issued for every listed equity and every fixed-income instrument with further allocations to different instrument types planned ensuring widespread access to a consistent security identifier code.
