The Exchange’s Probate Calculator, approved by the HM Revenue and Customs, has been designed to provide you with a time and cost effective means to fill out your HM Revenue and Customs Stocks and Shares form (D7).

Benefits

  • A step-by-step process to help you select the correct stocks or shares, right through to printing off your D7 in the HM Revenue and Customs approved format,
  • Valuations calculated for all stocks, shares, debentures quoted in the Stock Exchange Daily Official List, including any interest or dividends due, with all workings shown,
  • Valuations for UK funds including unit trusts and investment trusts,
  • Additional sections to freely enter additional stock information and values obtained from a third party source.
  • Data available back to 10 June 1999.

 


Creating a new report

  • Click on the Create report link.
  • If you have not already done so, you will need to register to use this service. This is to ensure your reports are saved to your account.
  • Once you have registered you can then log on.
  • Logging on will bring you to the Create report page.
  • Enter the name of the deceased which will appear on the D7 form.
  • Enter the date of death of the deceased. All valuations will be based on the date entered.
  • (Optional) Enter a code for your reference.
  • Click on the Next Step button to proceed to the next stage, or the Cancel button if you do not wish to proceed.
  • Click OK on the pop up box once you have checked the details are correct.  They cannot be changed again on the report you are producing.

 


Portfolio Details:

  • Use the   symbol to search for Equities and Bonds and use the   to search for Unit Trusts.
  • Search using either part of the issuer name, or the ISIN, SEDOL or TDM codes, or select the letter your share/bond/fund begins with.
  • Select the share/bond/fund from the results.
  • In the adjacent box enter the total number of shares/units held in that particular instrument.
  • For each separate instrument select the   adjacent to each new row and continue the process until you have completed your portfolio.
  • Once you have completed the portfolio, click on the Next Steps button to go to the payment stage.
  • If you have made an error you can delete a row by clicking on the  symbol.
  • If you cannot get a price from our system, you may need to source a price from a third party.  Third party sourced prices can be entered at a later stage in the process at no additional cost.
  • If you wish to save your portfolio to return to it later, click on the ‘Save your portfolio details for later’ link.
  • If you wish to cancel the process, click on the Cancel button.

 


Payment Stage:

 

  • If you wish to pay by credit card or credits, select Option 1 and follow the online instructions.
  • If you wish to add more stocks to your portfolio, select option 2. 
  • If you wish to just save your portfolio to return to it later, select Option 3.

 


Add Additional Stocks and Shares:

 

  • At this stage you will be able to see the prices for which you have paid.
  • You also have the opportunity to add lines of stock for which you were unable to get a valuation from the London Stock Exchange.
  • To enter additional shares, enter the full description of the instrument, the quantity and the individual price per instrument and the system will calculate the value.  Enter the interest/dividend due if valid and select the type of stock.  Repeat this process for each additional line.  You will not be charged for entering these additional rows.
  • If you have a fund that is ex-dividend, and you have been given the valuation by the fund manager, the details can be added in this section.
  • If you have a PEP valuation from your manager, click on the tick box and remember to include the valuation with your D7 form when you submit it.
  • When you have completed the additional rows, you can either click on the Save button to save your portfolio and return to it later, or click on Next Step to request your D7 form.

 


Your D7 Report:

 

  • You can now get your D7 form by clicking on the link to the Your D7 PDF.
  • You can either save the D7 to your own hard drive or print the D7 to send to the HM Revenue and Customs with any additional documentation required.
  • Your D7 will also be saved in the My reports section which you can access from the left hand menu in the Probate Calculator section.
  • You can also on this page click on the D7 Workings PDF to view how we have calculated your D7 valuation.

 


My Reports:

 

  • Remember that you can save your report at any point of the process and return to it later.
  • You can return to your reports at any stage in the My Probate Report section of the Probate Calculator.
  •  Even after you have paid for your valuation and produced the D7, you can add additional lines of London Stock Exchange prices. Simply click on the   icon next to the relevant report in the My Probate Report section and add the additional lines you require and follow the steps to produce the report again.
  • You will need to submit the report to the HM Revenue and Customs – our system does not submit the report.
