Environmental Policy

Chairman's statement:

"We increasingly recognise the need to develop robust systems to evaluateand manage our wider business impact on the environment. If we are to maintain and build a sustainable community then leading organisations must be seen to take up the challenge and encourage others to follow. We are prepared to take on this role. The Exchange has always taken its environmental responsibilities seriously and we have already put in place many environmental initiatives.

We are now consolidating this work and developing an approach through

our Environmental Management System to ensure that environmental

issues become and remain a key indicator within our internal controls and

risk management. We shall endeavour to work with and influence our

suppliers and business partners now and into the future."

Our commitment

We recognise that our activities impact on the environment. Consequently we embrace the principles of sustainable development and we are committed to a process of continual environmental improvement and pollution prevention.

Our aims

  • Minimise and conserve
We shall identify opportunities to reduce the resources we consume including energy, water and other natural resources, thereby also minimising the amount of waste we produce. Where practicable, we shall reuse materials, recycle waste and procure recycled products.

  • Comply
We shall endeavour to comply with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations. Moreover we shall treat these as the minimum standard and seek to exceed them wherever possible.

  • Measure and monitor
We shall implement and document an environmental management system (EMS) that will provide the framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and for measuring performance. The Environmental Management Group (EMG), consisting of senior managers from our business areas, will annually review the EMS to ensure the policy, programmes and procedures continue to reduce our environmental impact.

  • Involve and communicate
We shall document and communicate our policy to employees, suppliers, business partners and the public and provide the necessary training and resources to support the implementation of our policy.
