The group operates 325 HMV stores selling music, video and games in 9 countries and 197 Waterstone's book stores, principally in the UK and Ireland. Music is the group's largest product category, followed by books and then video - HMV's sales of the latter increasing due to the growth in sales of DVDs.
The group's principle businesses are in the UK, Japan, and Canada, which are 3 of the world's 6 largest music markets in terms of sales.
