e.comsport group plc to AIM - 25 May 2000
The startling growth in the popularity of sport over the last decade has been mirrored by an increase in the need for sports information providers - companies who are able to provide up-to-the-minute sports information for their subscribers as soon as it becomes available.
The Exchange has always played a valuable role in this field by allowing these companies to raise capital and get their first experience of a stock market listing.
One such company is e.comsport group plc, which successfully floated today on AIM - the Exchange's market for fledgling companies. Launched in 1995 with ten constituent members, AIM now boasts over 400 companies - and with the best performing index in the world last year, it's not hard to understand its popularity.
Incorporated earlier this year, e.comsport's core business is distributing sports information to subscribers through the internet, mobile telecommunications and broadcast media. It also has a porfolio of sports media products concentrating on football and golf. The company intends to use the proceeds from today's flotation to finance future expansion and development.
