Since Gazprom became the first company from Russia to list its depositary receipts on the London stock exchange in 1996, many other CIS companies have joined our markets. On April 22, 2008 Magnit, one of the largest food retail chains in Russia became the 100th company from the region to join the London Stock Exchange. Today there are 105 companies from the CIS countries on our markets with a total market capitalisation of more than US $242 billion as of the end of year 2008. Trading volumes in CIS securities on the Exchange’s IOB platform alone accounted for approximately $477 billion in 2008 ($1.88 billion per trading day).
In 2007 there were 269 IPOs at the Exchange with a total sum of raised capital of more than US $52 billion. CIS companies were a major contributor to these sums raising more than $19 billion in 24 IPOs on the London Stock Exchange in 2007.
The Main Market of the London Stock exchange is the Exchange’s flagship international market for established companies across all sectors. Currently there are 55 companies from Russia and the CIS countries on the Main market of the London stock exchange. Among the companies in the table below are some which have listed shares (such as Kazakhmys, ENRC and Ferrexpo), and others which have listed depository receipts.
Small and mid-cap companies from the CIS have also found a home at the London Stock Exchange on AIM where there are currently 49 companies with assets and operations across the CIS. The CIS companies on AIM have come to market to draw from the deep pool of funds available for fast growth companies from a number of different sectors. Aricom and Imperial Energy, two companies now on the Main Market, both began their publicly traded life on AIM where they funded rapid growth through access to AIM's international capital.
