London Investor Show to help deliver insight and education to private investor community
- Poll shows half of those with personal investments do not know how their money is invested
- A quarter do not know the value of their own investments
Nearly half of British people with private investments and pensions do not know how their money is invested, according to a poll by Populus and London Stock Exchange. Of those people who said they have ISAs, shares, bonds, a managed financial product or a private pension, 49 per cent said they were not sure how their money was invested. 24 per cent said they also did not know the value of their investments.
The results highlight the need for improved financial education, and better awareness of investment options. 29 per cent of people surveyed said they did not feel it is easy to access information about investing.
The figures come ahead of this year’s London Investor Show, the UK’s largest conference for savers, investors and traders. Hosted by London Stock Exchange, the one day event aims to connect investors and potential investors with financial and industry experts, so they can gain insight into a range of investment options, and make informed decisions about how to best meet their investment goals.
This year’s event will take place at London Olympia on Friday 25 October 2013, where it is expected more than 4,000 attendees will attend.
Brian Schwieger, Head of Equities at London Stock Exchange Group, said:
“The statistics coming out of this survey – with 49 per cent of investors unaware of how their money is invested – underline the need for greater financial awareness for both passive and active investors in the UK. Financial education and ready access to information about how to invest is so important, and London Stock Exchange is determined to support efforts to improve both.
“This is the aim of the London Investor Show, the UK’s biggest conference for savers, investors and active traders. The London Investor Show is a great opportunity for investors to interact with a range of representatives from the UK’s financial community, and to gain valuable insight into the investment opportunities available to them.”
