LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE ETF MARKET REACHES 100

· Choice of ETFs more than doubles in under a year

· Exchange welcomes PowerShares to the European ETF market

The London Stock Exchange announced today that the total number of ETFs available on its markets has reached 100, following this morning’s launch of eight new ETFs by Invesco PowerShares. Investors seeking to benefit from the low-cost, instant diversification offered by ETFs can now choose from more than twice the range of funds available to them at the start of the year.

The new PowerShares ETFs are the first the company has issued in Europe and include funds covering fundamentals-based US and European equity indices, as well clean energy, listed private equity and water ETFs.

David Shrimpton, Head of Product Management and Development at the London Stock Exchange said:

“We are delighted that Invesco PowerShares have chosen to launch their first ETFs in Europe on the London Stock Exchange. Invesco PowerShares are joining the UK ETF market at a very exciting time. So far this year the number of ETFs available to investors on the Exchange has grown from 46 to 100, order book trading volumes have nearly doubled, and the total value of ETF Assets Under Management in the UK has expanded by 55% compared with last year[1]”.

Commenting on the launch Bruce Bond, President of Invesco PowerShares, said:

“We are thrilled to be offering our first ETFs outside the US. The ETF market in Europe has grown by over 60% a year since 2004, but we see further tremendous opportunities as investors look for a more intelligent approach to ETFs”.

The eight ETFs launched today are:

  • the PowerShares Dynamic US Fund
  • the PowerShares FTSE RAFI US 1000 Fund
  • the PowerShares Global Clean Energy Fund
  • the PowerShares Palisades Global Water Fund
  • the PowerShares Global Listed Private Equity Fund
  • the PowerShares Dynamic Europe Fund
  • the PowerShares FTSE RAFI Europe Fund
  • the PowerShares Dynamic Global Developed Markets Fund.

The PowerShares Global Clean Energy Fund is the first ETF to offer investors access to the WilderHill New Energy Global Innovation Index, comprised of companies that focus on green, renewable energy and technologies facilitating cleaner energy.

The Exchange’s ETFs cover a range of UK and global equity and bond indices. As well as offering access to ETFs based on major country and regional indices and company fundamentals the range includes ETFs based on company size, dividend yield and sector. The Exchange operates a multicurrency trading service for ETFs which gives investors the choice of buying ETFs in either the local currency or the base currency of the index.
