LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE MAKES ITS MARK IN YORKSHIRE

The London Stock Exchange will be staging a major event in Yorkshire this Autumn. The Yorkshire Share Fair is part of the Exchange's successful ongoing Share Aware^TM campaign, which aims to give investors the necessary skills to make the most out of their investments.

The one-day event will be held at The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds on Saturday 20th October and aims to attract a large audience of private investors, from those who are new to stockmarket investment to those investors with large portfolios. A centre piece of the day will be two Stock Market Debates chaired by Jonathan Dimbleby, with input from stockmarket specialists Adam Shaw (BBC2's Working Lunch), Alvin Hall (BBC2's 'Your Money or Your Life'), Justin Urquhart Stewart and Terry Bond. There will also be a wide range of exciting seminars and workshops, which will include Alvin Hall's "Golden Rules for Investing."

The Yorkshire Share Fair comes three years on from the initial launch of Share Aware^TM which also took place in Leeds; a rolling campaign in which the Exchange is helping private investors to become wiser investors.

The number of shareholders in Yorkshire has increased over the last three years; currently 28% of the people living in Yorkshire are shareholders, which constitutes 10% of the UK's total share owning population. The number of investment clubs has also risen in the area from 196 in 1998 to 532 to date.

It is important that investors are able to understand the fluctuations of the market and gain the skills to become wiser investors."
